Royan, a magical sea resort to visit during a holiday in the Charente-Maritime
Royan is a Town of Art and History popular for its sea bathing that was rebuilt after being destroyed during the Second World War. Visitors can soak up its modern architecture inspired by Le Corbusier on lovely walks in the different parts of town. You can gaze at opulent colourful villas and stunning landmarks such as Notre-Dame Church. Go for a stroll in Royan's trendy Pontaillac neighbourhood or the marina where you can watch the boats in action and stop for an al fresco drink to soak up the amazing seaside vibes. If you need to stock up on supplies then head to the central market where you'll find everything you could wish for with shellfish, fish, meat of all kinds and seasonal fruit.
Things to do in Royan 60km from the campsite
Just like Châtelaillon-Plage, Royan is a top sea resort in the Charente-Maritime. The town and its five beaches form a fun-filled hotspot where you can indulge in all kinds of water sports. The Grande-Conche beach is a great spot to lay out your towel, top up your tan and try surfing. In late July it hosts the Un Violon sur le Sable Festival for three nights of seaside concerts.
